WHO ARE GOD’S TEACHERS?

God’s Teachers

3. There is a course for every teacher of God. 2The form of the course varies greatly. 3So do the particular teaching aids involved. 4But the content of the course never changes. 5Its central theme is always, “God’s Son is guiltless, and in his innocence is his salvation.” 6It can be taught by actions or thoughts; in words or soundlessly; in any language or in no language; in any place or time or manner. 7It does not matter who the teacher was before he heard the Call. 8He has become a savior by his answering. 9He has seen someone else as himself. 10He has therefore found his own salvation and the salvation of the world. 11In his rebirth is the world reborn.

Innocent and Guiltless

A Course in Miracles is such a course that Jesus speaks of. The central theme is that God’s Son is guiltless, and his innocence is his salvation. Of course, just studying A Course in Miracles does not a savior make. For that, we must study it and then put it into practice. Anyone can do this, and eventually, everyone does. It can be practiced in a number of ways and it can be taught in many ways, as well.

Teaching

Some teach through words, spoken or written. The messenger doesn’t have to be perfectly healed in order to teach, and, in fact, it is in teaching that he is healed. One can teach through actions as they heal and then become a symbol of innocence and forgiveness. But one can also be a teacher of God through their healed thoughts. Because we share one mind, we experience the healing that they experience. We become stronger because their thoughts strengthen the mind.

What stands out to me the most is the last two sentences. He has seen someone else as himself. He has therefore found his own salvation and the salvation of the world. In his rebirth is the world reborn. The implication here as it is throughout the Course, is that union is salvation. Of course, it is. Separation is the problem, and so salvation from the problem is union.

The Call

We answer the Call when we see someone else as ourselves. It is a modest beginning, but it sets us on the path to salvation. I imagine how this happened for me. That time long ago when a brother, a stranger in this story of Myron, told me his problems and instead of turning away or listening in polite but uninterested silence, I heard his words and became willing to be truly helpful.

In that moment, I saw him as myself. I saw that his welfare was as important as mine. His interests were my interests. In that moment, I answered the Call though I did not realize this is what had happened, not for years to come. It put me on the path, though, which eventually brought me to A Course in Miracles and my daily practices and my commitment to the Awakening.
