ACIM Workbook Daily Lesson 59
Review I
Lesson 59
The following ideas are for review today:
1. (41) God goes with me wherever I go.
²How can I be alone when God always goes with me? ³How can I be doubtful and unsure of myself when perfect certainty abides in Him? ⁴How can I be disturbed by anything when He rests in me in absolute peace? ⁵How can I suffer when love and joy surround me through Him? ⁶Let me not cherish illusions about myself. ⁷I am perfect because God goes with me wherever I go.
God goes with me everywhere I go because God is in my mind and that is where I am. We have talked about the body not being real and how we are not in the body. The Christ in you inhabits not a body. ²Yet He is in you. ³And thus it must be that you are not within a body. (ACIM, T-25.in.1:1-3) Where are we then? We are in our minds. Everything that appears to be outside our minds is illusion, images we made to represent our wishes. God does not go with our wishes, these imaginary images that act our thoughts and beliefs, He goes with us. We are safe and certain and abide in absolute peace. ⁶Let me not cherish illusions about myself. ⁷I am perfect because God goes with me wherever I go.
2. (42) God is my strength. ²Vision is His gift.
³Let me not look to my own eyes to see today. ⁴Let me be willing to exchange my pitiful illusion of seeing for the vision that is given by God. ⁵Christ’s vision is His gift, and He has given it to me. ⁶Let me call upon this gift today, so that this day may help me to understand eternity.
These eyes that we made as part of the body experience can show us nothing other than the images we made. They cannot show us what is really there. Certainly, the body’s eyes cannot help us perceive eternity. We made the eyes to deceive us as they convince us that the world is real and these stories are about us. But the Holy Spirit will use them to help us see the world differently as we use our right mind to forgive what we see.
War
Thinking about this, the war between Russia and Ukraine came to mind. Looking at this situation from the perspective of the ego, there are good guys and bad guys. The whole world has joined in condemnation and frantically searching for ways to control the outcome. This is a perfect representation of the desire to be separate and to find a place to project our guilt.
When I ask how to see this, I am given the desire to love everyone involved without exception. No one is to be excluded from the Sonship because the story took a painful turn. Our eyes are showing us the effect of separation thinking but vision shows us we are One. I was also given the desire to search my mind for attack thoughts and to forgive them.
Each of us either contributes to war or helps to clear the mind of the desire to attack and defend. There is really no difference between the desire for peace between nations and the desire for peace between neighbors. Peace is lost when the mind decides on war and peace is restored when the mind chooses it instead.
3. (43) God is my Source. ²I cannot see apart from Him.
³I can see what God wants me to see. ⁴I cannot see anything else. ⁵Beyond His Will lie only illusions. ⁶It is these I choose when I think I can see apart from Him. ⁷It is these I choose when I try to see through the body’s eyes. ⁸Yet the vision of Christ has been given me to replace them. ⁹It is through this vision that I choose to see.
When I look through at what body’s eyes see, I see only illusions and so I don’t see at all. I want to see truly. I want to see what is there. I can do this only through vision which has nothing to do with the images the eyes see. I see with vision when I look with Christ. This is better described as true perception. With the Holy Spirit, I see differently than I do with the ego. This is why my forgiveness process often includes the words, “Holy Spirit, show me how to see this.”
4. (44) God is the light in which I see.
²I cannot see in darkness. ³God is the only light. ⁴Therefore, if I am to see, it must be through Him. ⁵I have tried to define what seeing is, and I have been wrong. ⁶Now it is given me to understand that God is the light in which I see. ⁷Let me welcome vision and the happy world it will show me.
When I look at the world my eyes show me it can be very dark because its source (my mind) can be dark. This happens when I am looking to my ego to interpret the situation for me. I cannot see in darkness so the solution is to look with the Holy Spirit instead of with the ego. The Holy Spirit brings light to any situation and so I see clearly what He would have me see.
I sent a text to a friend that I thought called for a comment but I didn’t get one. Seen from the ego’s perspective this seems rude at best. Or maybe it indicates a rift in the friendship. When seen with the Holy Spirit, it is just a text that wasn’t answered. It doesn’t mean anything more than that. I am glad that I don’t believe everything I think.
5. (45) God is the Mind with which I think.
²I have no thoughts I do not share with God. ³I have no thoughts apart from Him, because I have no mind apart from His. ⁴As part of His Mind, my thoughts are His and His Thoughts are mine.
It seems like I have thoughts apart from God. The thought that my friend should have commented on the text is a case in point. My friend is guilty of not answering my text is obviously not a thought I think with God. So, how do I see this? The thoughts I think I think are not my real thoughts. They are the ego’s thoughts. The ego is just part of the illusion and so not real and therefore is not me and its thoughts are not mine. That is why I didn’t have to take it seriously. And that is why I am not hurt by my friend’s behavior.
Even more important is that my thoughts are His and His Thoughts are mine. Oh, to be so clear that I am aware of only those thoughts! This is why I am highly motivated to do the forgiveness work. I want to think only the thoughts I share with God.
