Lesson 334
Today I claim the gifts forgiveness gives.
1. I will not wait another day to find the treasures that my Father offers me. ²Illusions are all vain, and dreams are gone even while they are woven out of thoughts that rest on false perceptions. ³Let me not accept such meager gifts again today. ⁴God’s Voice is offering the peace of God to all who hear and choose to follow Him. ⁵This is my choice today. ⁶And so I go to find the treasures God has given me.
2. I seek but the eternal. ²For Your Son can be content with nothing less than this. ³What, then, can be his solace but what You are offering to his bewildered mind and frightened heart, to give him certainty and bring him peace? ⁴Today I would behold my brother sinless. ⁵This Your Will for me, for so will I behold my sinlessness.
There are two main points that Jesus is making in this lesson.
It is the same thing he tells us throughout the Course. First, what we have chosen to believe is not our blessed reality which is available to us. Second, we can find our peace and joy by recognizing our brother is sinless. Choosing separation inevitably leads to pain, suffering, and death. This is not what God wills for His beloved Son. His gifts have gone nowhere and are as available to us now as ever. We have simply turned from these gifts and so are no longer aware of them.
All through the Course, we are given encouragement and concepts to help us understand. We are reassured that we can never be separate from our Source and so never suffer and die. If we believe in separation, the power of our belief will make it so. But that same power can easily reverse this error because it is not reality.
He also tells us that we are one with each other, and so what is done to one is done to all. Naturally, this means that what is true for one is true for all. And it follows that what we give is received. Now you can understand why it is important what you think about others and how you treat them. If we imagine they are guilty, we have imagined we are guilty, and we will suffer.
We made a world that seems to turn God’s Will upside down.
Are you kidding me? Do we actually believe that we can undo the Will of God and become something we were not created? That’s insane thinking. This insane thinking has caused untold pain and misery. Isn’t it time to end the suffering? We can do that so easily.
Just start anywhere. Are you worried about money? Lack is a belief, and beliefs are not fact. That belief is in your mind, but so is the belief in abundance. Choose that belief instead. It’s that simple, and you can make the better choice with everything.
You can do this because you have the strength of God within you to draw on. Just be vigilant for thoughts and feelings that indicate you have been believing something not true. Then forgive that belief, let it go, and choose a better belief. Choose a belief that reflects who you really are.
Regina’s Tips
In fear it stands beyond the Everywhere,
apart from All,
in separation from the Infinite.
I need to ask myself:
Do I want to continue to do that?
I feel this is a really important decision. I know I will either spend my time reinforcing the ego or I will spend my time in the spiritual practice that undoes the ego and awakens to truth.
Also, I find this question showing up in my mind:
Do I love God enough to awaken to God?
Or are other things still more important?
My Thoughts
I can hardly believe that for even a day, I had thought that hiding my ‘I am bad’ belief was more important to me than awakening to God. But there are those kinds of careless thoughts in all our minds, and we need to ask ourselves what is important to us, awakening to God or holding onto our stories. I know that I don’t want to continue to separate myself from the Infinite and so I will spend all my time in spiritual practice. Nothing else is as important to me. Nothing else is important at all in comparison to my love for God. Does this mean I will do nothing during the day except think about God? No. Not at all. Where is the practice in that? I will live my life with my eye on the goal and ever vigilant for any thought that would misdirect me.
Today, I will hold my brother sinless.
Seeing my brother sinless is simply a matter of deciding it is so and refusing to change my mind. I cannot look at the world for evidence of his sinlessness because the world reflects only my belief that he is guilty. Once I decide that my brother is sinless, I hold to that decision regardless of the evidence to the contrary. That evidence is unreliable and is based on ego lies.
If I choose to see sin and guilt outside myself, knowing that this is not the truth, it can only be because I am unwilling to face what I believe is within. The ego warns me that I dare not look within because it is so awful and instead offers me the gift of specialness if I will side with it. I can have wholeness, peace, love, and joy, or I can have specialness with its effects of anger, hatred, pain, and fear.
I look at the evidence of my brother’s sin, and my ego assures me that I can trust what I see. The proof is right before my eyes, and I would be a fool to deny it. When I argue that my brother is sinless, the ego argues right back that it is not so. That I would bother to argue with the ego is proof to me that I would rather be right than be happy. It takes faith to turn my back on what seems real and to trust what Jesus tells me is real. But I can do this because the ego has proven over and over that it does not know anything.
