God’s healing Voice protects all things today.
Lesson 275
God’s healing Voice protects all things today.
1. Let us today attend the Voice for God, which speaks an ancient lesson, no more true today than any other day. ²Yet has this day been chosen as the time when we will seek and hear and learn and understand. ³Join me in hearing. ⁴For the Voice for God tells us of things we cannot understand alone, nor learn apart. ⁵It is in this that all things are protected. ⁶And in this the healing of the Voice for God is found.
2. Your healing Voice protects all things today, and so I leave all things to You. ²I need be anxious over nothing. ³For Your Voice will tell me what to do and where to go; to whom to speak and what to say to him, what thoughts to think, what words to give the world. ⁴The safety that I bring is given me. ⁵Father, Your Voice protects all things through me.
We have been told that God’s Voice speaks to us all through the day.
Now we are told that God’s healing Voice protects all things today. Should we not learn to be attuned to that Voice? I hear His Voice in different ways. Sometimes it comes as what appears to be inspired thoughts, sometimes just a knowing. Or maybe a thought that answers a question in my mind. It often comes as a feeling such as feeling safe in a dangerous situation or at peace amidst the chaos. Sometimes it feels like bliss.
Some people experience God’s healing Voice as visions or colors. One person I know sometimes sees words appear as if on a screen. This Voice for God shows up in how the individual can understand and accept and is so normal that it is often overlooked or imagined to be their own thoughts. But that Voice is always there, comforting, directing, guiding, and healing. I am grateful that I learned to cultivate my ability to be aware of It.
Consider these promises.
If we accept that God’s healing Voice protects all things today, and if we stay attuned to His Voice, we can go through our life without anxiety. Jesus told us, “You are afraid of this because you believe that without the ego, all would be chaos. ⁷Yet I assure you that without the ego, all would be love. (ACIM, T-15.V.1:6-7) It will not be chaotic because we don’t need the ego to direct our lives, a job it does badly, anyway.
Consider this promise: ³For Your Voice will tell me what to do and where to go; to whom to speak and what to say to him, what thoughts to think, what words to give the world. In receiving this help, we give it to the world, and so His Voice protects all things through me. I have heard people say that we should not bring the Holy Spirit into the world, but that is exactly Who we should bring here.
Bring everything to the Holy Spirit.
Consider this: You have been told to ask the Holy Spirit for the answer to any specific problem, and that you will receive a specific answer if such is your need. (ACIM, S-1.I.2:1) And this: ⁴It is only because you think that you can run some little part, or deal with certain aspects of your life alone, that the guidance of the Holy Spirit is limited. (ACIM, T-14.XI.8:4)
There are many other places in the Course where we are told to bring our problems and questions to the Holy Spirit. As it says in the Song of Prayer: ⁴There are decisions to make here, and they must be made whether they be illusions or not. (ACIM, S-1.I.2:4) Why would we ever ask the ego for advice when we have the Voice for God to turn to?
What else do I need to know?
I am being guided as to where to go, who to speak to and what to say, what thoughts to think, and what words to give the world. I used to think that what mattered was that I had enough money, was healthy, and that people liked me and my family loved and respected me. And I thought it mattered if it rained or not and if bugs ate my vegetable garden. I would be embarrassed if I drove an old clunker or if my body was too big or my clothes too unfashionable.
All that seems ridiculous to me now. I have little control over those things that occur in this life, and I don’t care for the most part. Now when the story of Myron disappoints me, I look at it with the Holy Spirit at the thought and emotion, and then I move on, knowing that my mind has been healed. I had a moment yesterday when I chose to give up some of my savings, and for a moment, I wondered if that was wise. What if in this hurricane season my house suffered damage and I would need that money badly?
For a little while, I felt the fear, and then it passed. That precious Inner Voice soothed my concerns. What is happening now? Someone who needs that money more than I do is breathing a sigh of relief. My house is still standing and has a roof, and my coffee is hot and delicious. I am writing the words that need to be written. I am filled all the way up with gratitude. What more could I want out of this moment?
Regina’s Tips
Our special theme says, “Home of the Holy Spirit, and at home in God alone, does Christ remain at peace within the Heaven of your holy mind. This is the only part of you that has reality in truth. The rest is dreams. Yet will these dreams be given unto Christ, to fade before His glory and reveal your holy Self, the Christ, to you at last.”
A dream is defined as “a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep.”
In today’s excerpt from our special theme, “dream” is an analogy. Certainly, we are not in the human sleep state as we walk about in our daily lives. However, we are still living a dream when we believe we are affected by the “series of thoughts, images and sensations” experienced throughout the day. We are not affected by thoughts, images and sensations, because we are untouched consciousness, the witness of the human experience.
My Thoughts
A dream is a good analogy for our lives as human beings. We can wander aimlessly through the dream, pretending the things we are doing and the successes we experience matter. Or we can have a more lucid dream, a dream in which we discover that the world’s idea of success is not fulfilling, and we become better human beings. Or we can wake up in the dream and realize that it is a dream and that what happens in a dream only affects the dream, not who we are. We can just let the dream unfold without trying to control it. We can surrender to the experience and let it bring us to the next level.
Regina’s Tips on the lesson
What is true today that has also been true on every other day?
Do not look to your mind for the answer to this question. Look to your consistent nature. It is here, present now and “no more true today than any other day. … It is in this that all things are protected.”
My Thoughts
I used to expend all my prayers and energy trying to affect and protect the world I seem to live in, my home, family, bank account, and body. What needs to happen will happen. The way to feel safe and protected is not to frantically defend against the dream. It is to wake up from the dream, to remember who I am.
Who I am, the eternal Self, needs no defense. Here is how I achieved this level of peace. I more and more often take time to rest in the silence between thoughts. I do this in meditation and even in line at the grocery store or stuck in traffic. In those little silent vacations from the dream world, I touch my Self, and that Self becomes real to me. One day, I will just slip seamlessly into fully identifying with Self. Maybe the idea that I once thought I was a self will just be an amusing memory.
What feels normal is often not what is helpful.
It feels normal to think during the day that this is going well or that is not working. Yesterday I caught myself judging things that were happening. So, I reminded myself just to let things be what they are. Everything is perfect for my awakening, nothing better or worse than anything else. It is impossible to see the moment’s perfection while I am judging.
Here is something I am learning to do when things seem to be upsetting. I ask the Holy Spirit what He would have me do with this. This brings things back into perspective for me. I used to focus on how to get the world back into line with my perceived needs. I am now thinking in terms of what this moment is teaching me.
Me: Holy Spirit, I appreciate your ever-present guidance and help.
I open my mind to You and commit to stepping back and allowing You to lead the way.
Holy Spirit: Dear one, in asking Me where I would have you go and what I would have you say, you place your will in alignment with God. That is why it feels right for you to do this, and why you feel safe when you do it. Remind yourself often of your intent. Remember that what happens today is of little importance. However, how you use what happens can be very helpful to your purpose. Isn’t it much more comfortable to ask for sure guidance than it is to run around trying to make things happen?
Me: Holy Spirit, it certainly is, especially since I don’t know what anything is for anyway.
Holy Spirit: When you operate through the ego, this is inevitable. The ego is not interested in peace. It is interested only in the chaos it hides behind. Without this chaotic screen, the fact that it makes no sense would become quickly evident. Thus you would lose interest in its impossible goals. Allow your mind to come back to peace and to clarity. Remind yourself often that this is your goal today. If you become lost in ego distractions, call on Me to guide you back. I am the beacon light in your mind, placed there by God for this purpose. I will not fail to respond because I am not confused about My Purpose.
