3. What is the World?
The world is false perception. It is born of error, and it has not left its source. It will remain no longer than the thought that gave it birth is cherished. When the thought of separation has been changed to one of true forgiveness, will the world be seen in quite another light; and one which leads to truth, where all the world must disappear and all its errors vanish. Now its source has gone, and its effects are gone as well.
The world was made as an attack on God. It symbolizes fear. And what is fear except love’s absence? Thus the world was meant to be a place where God could enter not, and where His Son could be apart from Him. Here was perception born, for knowledge could not cause such insane thoughts. But eyes deceive, and ears hear falsely. Now mistakes become quite possible, for certainty has gone.
The mechanisms of illusion have been born instead. And now they go to find what has been given them to seek. Their aim is to fulfill the purpose which the world was made to witness and make real. They see in its illusions but a solid base where truth exists, upheld apart from lies. Yet everything that they report is but illusion which is kept apart from truth.
As sight was made to lead away from truth, it can be redirected. Sounds become the call for God, and all perception can be given a new purpose by the One Whom God appointed Savior to the world. Follow His light, and see the world as He beholds it. Hear His Voice alone in all that speaks to you. And let Him give you peace and certainty, which you have thrown away, but Heaven has preserved for you in Him.
Let us not rest content until the world has joined our changed perception. Let us not be satisfied until forgiveness has been made complete. And let us not attempt to change our function. We must save the world. For we who made it must behold it through the eyes of Christ, that what was made to die can be restored to everlasting life.
“4 We must save the world. 5 For we who made it must behold it through the eyes of Christ, that what was made to die can be restored to everlasting life.”
There is only one way to save the world, and that is to awaken from the dream of separation. When we do that, we uplift the entire Sonship and once the Sonship is awakened, there will be nothing ego left in the world. There will be no guilt or fear, thus there will be no hatred, sickness, pain, suffering or death. There will be only love. Thus, what we are doing now, noticing our dark thoughts and feelings and allowing them to be transformed is the way we save the world. It is our task to save the world because we are responsible for the error. God honors even our miscreations because of who we are and will not undo what we do. That is our job.
Our special theme begins, “The world is a false perception. It is born of error, and it has not left its source.” Its source is error. In this case, it is an error about what we are. The Course calls it “the thought of separation.” The thought of separation, the ego and the I-thought are synonymous.
As Michael Langford writes, the ego “has created all the wars, diseases, death, suffering and evil that every human has ever experienced.”
Regina goes on to give examples. I don’t need to look at this further. I am well aware that it is the ego that causes all the awful things we do to each other. I am aware that there is reason to do the spiritual work we do and that there is great need to make this our priority, not just for our own comfort but because we are causing great suffering for all of the world.
This is a very simple explanation for the world. We made a place that was meant to be different than God, and therefore a place where God would not be. This cannot be done, so what we made was an illusion of a place separate from God. As long as we want this place it will continue to exist in our mind, though not in reality. As long as it exists in our mind we will experience the effects of believing in it.
We made this illusion so we must undo it if we no longer want it. It will be undone for us, but we must do our part. To end it we must stop wanting it. We are not alone in this as we were given the Help we need. Everything we see in the world is skewed because it is not based on certainty, but on illusion. However, when we decide that we want to see truly, we need only look through the eyes of the Holy Spirit.
What does this look like in my life? I was judging someone I met recently. I could only judge in the illusion because in truth all is love and there is nothing to judge. So if I am judging I know that I am looking at the world with ego. I don’t want to look with the ego anymore so I asked for help to see differently. It was upsetting to me when I still felt judgmental. Why didn’t it change right then?
I looked at what the story of this person was giving me, that is, its value to me. Once I saw that I believed I needed this person to be wrong and that his guilt would be of value to me, it was clear to me that I didn’t really want to see him innocent. This is the reason my prayer for clarity didn’t seem to be answered. I didn’t really want the answer. I am a Son of God. I will not be denied what I want. It seemed to be causing me to suffer, but in asking for the illusion of judgment I was asking for the illusion of suffering because one causes the other.
Having seen the reason for the continued judgment, and being clear that judgment was causing me to suffer it was easier for me to change my mind. I was able to look with Christ Vision at this person and see him differently and to do so with no sense of loss. Relinquishment of judgment is not seen as loss when its value is recognized as false. I saw this person truly the moment I really wanted to. This is forgiveness, and it is the way I undo the world I made.
