Lesson 59

Lesson 59

The following ideas are for review today:

God goes with me wherever I go.

How can I be alone when God always goes with me? How can I be doubtful and unsure of myself when perfect certainty abides in Him? How can I be disturbed by anything when He rests in me in absolute peace? How can I suffer when love and joy surround me through Him? Let me not cherish illusions about myself. I am perfect because God goes with me wherever I go.

(42) God is my strength. Vision is His gift.

Let me not look to my own eyes to see today. Let me be willing to exchange my pitiful illusion of seeing for the vision that is given by God. Christ’s vision is His gift, and He has given it to me. Let me call upon this gift today, so that this day may help me to understand eternity.

(43) God is my Source. I cannot see apart from Him.

I can see what God wants me to see. I cannot see anything else. Beyond His Will lie only illusions. It is these I choose when I think I can see apart from Him. It is these I choose when I try to see through the body’s eyes. Yet the vision of Christ has been given me to replace them. It is through this vision that I choose to see.

(44) God is the light in which I see.

I cannot see in darkness. God is the only light. Therefore, if I am to see, it must be through Him. I have tried to define what seeing is, and I have been wrong. Now it is given me to understand that God is the light in which I see. Let me welcome vision and the happy world it will show me.

(45) God is the Mind with which I think.

I have no thoughts I do not share with God. I have no thoughts apart from Him, because I have no mind apart from His. As part of His Mind, my thoughts are His and His Thoughts are mine.

1 (41) God goes with me wherever I go.

God doesn’t go beside me or before or behind me. He goes with me because we are inseparable. I am in God and God is in me. He is God the Father and I am God the Son, and though He came first and birthed me, I am what He is. I have to remind myself of this often because this illusion of a frail and vulnerable body and this illusion of a mad world are so pervasive and so realistic that the truth seems like a myth rather than a fact.

But that it is true means that I have all that God is at all times, so absolute peace and love and joy are always at hand. To experience the truth the only thing I need to do is to be willing to acknowledge that the world I made is not real and that I no longer want it. It seems like it would be easy and yet we all find it very difficult. We are like children so easily distracted by the next shiny thing to come our way. And like children, the shadows become monsters and frighten us into hiding. But God remains God and so do we, so we will finally choose salvation.

2 (42) God is my strength. Vision is His gift.

We will awaken because we are not depending on our own (ego) strength but on the strength of God. We will succeed because we are not fighting anything real. It is just a matter of vision. We look with the body’s eyes and see an illusion and believe the illusion is real. It’s funny because I was just talking to my son and he was telling about his persistent problem with insomnia.

He goes so long without sleeping that he hallucinates. It can be very frightening when this happens. He doesn’t always realize that he is hallucinating and the sleep deprivation induced hallucinations are just a variation on the norm. It’s frightening only because it is not a shared hallucination and it is different than he has come to expect. What he sees when hallucinating looks as real as what he sees normally, just different.

We are hallucinating all the time and we call it reality. As we begin to accept that the body’s eyes don’t really see, that they actually make images of our thoughts, we have taken the first step to seeing what is actually there. The mind is now open to another possibility. Until that happened, we were stuck with the world as we have come to believe in it. We can open up to true Vision as given by God and we will understand eternity. We don’t have to figure out how to do this; we only need to become willing to accept His gift.

3 (43) God is my Source. I cannot see apart from Him.

It is time to admit that I don’t see anything real, that I only see my thoughts projected as images. As long as I continue to think with the ego mind, I will see images of these thoughts. I don’t have to do this. I can and have been learning to use my holy mind instead. This is where the thoughts of God reside. These thoughts will show me what God wants me to see. It is the only way to actually see.

4 (44) God is the light in which I see.

I was thinking about how I dream at night. It is dark in my room with my eyes closed, and yet images flicker across my “vision.” I see in darkness because it is only my mind that makes these images and light is not needed. So when I am awake there seems to be light and I seem to see things. Yet, it is still dark and the light and the things I see are not there. Again, it is just my thoughts being projected as if they are real things.

To truly see, I must do so through God. He is the light in which I see. I must think with God and then I will see with God. It is the only way to actually see. My very poor replacement for seeing is not making me happy and I am ready to be happy. With God, I will see a happy world.

5 (45) God is the Mind with which I think.

“I have no thoughts I do not share with God. I have no thoughts apart from Him, because I have no mind apart from His. As part of His Mind, my thoughts are His and His Thoughts are mine.”

What else can I say? These are not hopes and wishes; they are facts. Everything else I experience is an illusion. As Jesus has said, the thoughts I think I think… I think I am thinking but I am not. The truth is I can only think with God because I am part of His Mind and we share our Thoughts. I am certain that the thoughts I think I think are not thoughts God thinks so they cannot be real.

Having been married to a schizophrenic at one time, I am fully aware of how the brain can misfire and convince someone that his/her paranoid thoughts are based on reality. I no longer have a lot of faith in our thinking. I know that we are all insane and that we are all just a thought or two away from even more frightening insanity. So if God is the Mind with which we think, what we have been doing cannot be called thinking. Perhaps it can more accurately be called an illusion of thinking.

Regina’s Tips

This is my favorite of Regina’s tips on this lesson.

Review 43. God is my Source. I cannot see apart from Him. I am at home in my heart. I am myself as God’s quiet strength. Let me rest deeply within myself frequently, so that I become familiar and the ego feels strange and out-of-place.

This is an excerpt from, “Hey, Holy Spirit, It’s Me Again” available at http://www.pathwaysoflight.org and as an ebook from Amazon.

These lessons help me to understand that I am part of God and that this can be manifest even in the illusion.

Each day brings opportunities in the form of problems that I have created through wrong-minded thinking. In each challenge, I recognize that God is with me. He cannot be elsewhere because He is in my mind. I think with Him, I see through His eyes. I cannot fail to meet this challenge because He is my strength. It is only a misconception that I am outside God and that there is any other way that this could happen. This misconception convinces me that I can be alone and vulnerable. I only need to change my mind about this for the world of separation to fall away.

Holy Spirit: It is not useful to set your goal to change anything in the world, but it is helpful to use the world to learn that it doesn’t exist. As you bring each problem and false thought to Me for correction, you are teaching yourself that you are not really in the world and that there is nothing out there for you to be in. You are learning that you are part of God and that there is nothing else for you to be part of. You cannot fail to reach your goal because there is nothing else for you to reach.

Myron, I have said to you often that you are not the thing you see in the mirror. Think of the image you see as your avatar. It is only the visual representation of the ego beliefs held in the mind. It is useful to use your avatar to navigate the illusion and to use it to find your memory of truth. But it is not you, and believing it is you is the source of your fear and unhappiness. The belief that you are that image is the anchor that keeps you in the dream of separation. As you are letting go of that mistaken belief, you are learning to use the avatar for the purpose of awakening.

You are actually in God right this moment, dreaming that you are someplace else. You often refer to that someplace as hell, and that is an apt description. But the someplace you are does not actually exist, except in your dreams, so you see you cannot really be there. You can think of Me as being your friend who is fully awake but visiting you in your dream. This is not literal, as there is only One, but it is a helpful way to see Me. Do you see how useful it is to have in your mind One who knows the truth and yet understands your experience as well?

I encourage you to continue watching your mind for mistaken thoughts and asking Me to correct them for you. This is how I help you wake up from the dream. I see what is going on in your life, and I know how you feel when these things happen, but I know it is all just a dream. From this vantage point, I can reassure you; I can give you true thoughts; I can lead you back to your Self.

Your real Self sees truly, as it does not use the body’s eyes to view the pale images you have mistaken for reality. It does not use the body’s brain to “think,” if that is what you want to call it. As you invite Me to guide you, to correct you, to heal you, light will come and you will finally see. You will see as God sees, you will think what God thinks.

You know this is true. Your mind holds the memory of God and of you as a Son of God. Turn to Me in your mind. Turn to Me often. I will strengthen that memory in you until there is nothing else in your mind. How we will laugh at the thought that you could ever have been this small, weak, frightened creature!

Me: I cannot grasp that memory completely nor hold onto it long, but I feel it. It is like it remains at the corner of the eye, there, but not quite in sight. In the meantime, I continue to be vigilant and to bring my mistaken thoughts and my confusion to You. Something I notice is that when I am confronted by someone about something I said or did, I am often very upset by it. In fact, I can get upset in a way that is all out of proportion to what was said to me. Then I have a difficult time letting go of the fear this brings up for me. Can You help me see this differently?

Holy Spirit: The correction of mistaken thoughts is my job, and I will always do it. I will not, however, correct a thought that you want, even if you say that this is what you want Me to do. I listen, not to your words, but to your heart. It is possible, however, for you to change your mind about what you want. You know that this is true because you have been doing it. Ask yourself what the belief is that is causing you to feel fear when others see you as wrong and give me that belief to be healed.

When someone sees you as wrong, they are speaking from the ego, and when you respond with fear, you are responding from the ego. You are reinforcing the belief that you are both egos, and this will always induce fear because the ego is the idea of fear. Your strength lies in God. You can turn away from that response by knowing that you are in God.

The ego always answers the ego, but you are not the ego, and you do not have to listen to that answer. You have within you the Voice of God, and you can listen to that Voice instead. As you make the choice to listen to God’s Voice more and more often, you will no longer believe what you hear from the ego, and the ego response will become so meaningless to you that it will no longer elicit a fearful response. You can only listen to one voice at a time. Form the happy habit of choosing the Voice for God as the one you will hear.
