Lesson 239

Lesson 239

The glory of my Father is my own.

Let not the truth about ourselves today be hidden by a false humility. Let us instead be thankful for the gifts our Father gave us. Can we see in those with whom He shares His glory any trace of sin and guilt? And can it be that we are not among them, when He loves His Son forever and with perfect constancy, knowing he is as He created him?

We thank You, Father, for the light that shines forever in us. And we honor it, because You share it with us. We are one, united in this light and one with You, at peace with all creation and ourselves.

Journal

This is the lesson that took the longest for me to accept. The idea of myself as glorified, as the Son of God, that has taken all these years. I accept the idea and I practice thinking of myself in that way. My ego mind was very resistant to this idea and I felt that resistance, but I learned not to flinch at the thought. And, I do believe it’s true even as my mind has trouble envisioning such a thing.

God created us and loves us and this is never going to change. He created us like Himself so there is no reason to see myself falsely. How could I be anything less than what I was created? It is not possible. I only become confused about that when I think of myself as this body/personality. Then I remind myself that this is just a part I am playing in a production of Separation and Specialness. Better catch it soon if you want to see what happens to our heroine. It is here for only a short run. ~smile~ My real Self is as God created me, perfect, brilliant, beautiful and eternal and that’s a story not showing on earth.

Regina’s Tips

Today, whenever you notice your thoughts slipping into false humility, be instead “thankful for the gifts our Father gave us.” Practice right-gratitude, which is gratitude for awareness-life-presence as it is. Be grateful for awareness-life-presence in one’s self, in others and in nature. Let today be a day of focusing on truth with a grateful heart.

Here are some ways we can notice our own false humility. It came from a chart recommended by Regina for this purpose.

Self-defeating mind-set and poor self-image, evaluating oneself too negatively – I’m a failure, I’m worthless, I can’t do anything right, no one likes me.
Tendency to be self-despising or to belittle oneself, to be self-deprecating around others, excessively modest, due to feeling inferior, useless, or unworthy
Preoccupied with anxious concern for oneself, can’t focus on others
People pleaser – does whatever others want regardless of what is the prudent or right thing to do
Timid or insecure – lacking in self- assurance, afraid to take initiative, afraid to speak up or be assertive when needed
Overly dependent on what others think – lacks prudence to think and judge rightly
Fearful of correction and feedback because of low self-worth or poor self-image

My Thoughts

Those traits point to the problem, but don’t define the problem. The problem is that we do truly believe that we are right now separate from God. We believe that we could not be God the Son and that to claim that we are is arrogant. Arrogant, however, is to claim to be something God did not create. I am trying to overcome what arrogance is still in my mind.

Past Entry

Holy Spirit, what I seem to be learning is that I cannot see my own glory unless I see my brother’s glory. But paradoxically, I cannot see his glory unless I am willing to see mine. I notice that as long as I am holding onto guilt within my own mind, I find everyone else guilty. I know that this is projection on my part. I seem to be forgiving everyone else simply by forgiving myself for what I think I see in them. I know… this is what Jesus has been telling me all along, but as I practice this kind of forgiveness, I find that I suddenly really get it.

Until pretty recently I was trying to see mine and my brother’s glory. As I forgive myself, I find that I don’t have to try, that I just automatically see the light of God shining through. So once again I realize that there is nothing for me to do to make the truth real, or make it show up in my life. I just undo the illusions I made to take its place and the light which never left becomes apparent to me.

I am also realizing that it is supreme arrogance on my part to think that I am in charge of the light of God; that I need to do something to bring it into existence. I step back from that idea, and simply allow. Instead of seeing myself as somehow responsible for the light I am now simply the channel through which God expresses His love.

It is very humbling and yet, at the same time it is glorious to think of myself as a vessel for God. I want to empty myself of every ego thought to purify this vessel and make it ready for my Father’s use. As spirit, I am whole and there is no separation, and so I understand why Jesus speaks always of the importance of my brother to my healing. Healing is literally the rejoining (in my mind) that which was never separated.

The reason I was unable to accept the glory of my Father as my own is because I had always been identifying with the ego. The more I practice forgiveness, the less I identify with ego, and the more I identify with myself as spirit, that is, as an extension of God. Now it no longer feels arrogant and frightening to think of myself as sharing the glory of my Father. Thank you, Holy Spirit for helping me to see this more clearly.
