Lesson 235

Lesson 235

God in His mercy wills that I be saved.

I need but look upon all things that seem to hurt me, and with perfect certainty assure myself, “God wills that I be saved from this,” and merely watch them disappear. I need but keep in mind my Father’s Will for me is only happiness, to find that only happiness has come to me. And I need but remember that God’s Love surrounds His Son and keeps his sinlessness forever perfect, to be sure that I am saved and safe forever in His Arms. I am the Son He loves. And I am saved because God in His mercy wills it so.

Father, Your Holiness is mine. Your Love created me, and made my sinlessness forever part of You. I have no guilt nor sin in me, for there is none in You.

Journal

I am certain that everyone who has read this lesson has also had the experience of not being saved from what seems to hurt them. I think that this is because we ask to be saved from the effects of our wrong-minded thinking. What we need to ask is that we be saved from the thoughts that cause the effects.

That is why I stay vigilant for my thoughts. It is why I release dark thoughts as they come to my attention. It is why I rest in God during the day and invite the spiritual forces working on my behalf to heal my mind. This is how I am saved. As my mind has been corrected, my life has become more peaceful because I don’t have so much darkness in it.

Another change that has occurred that I think is part of salvation, is that my faith has grown stronger. I am more certain than ever that I am ready to awaken, that I no longer value the ego thinking mind and that I have no desire to decide for myself. The ego thoughts don’t interest me as much as they used to and I have learned to turn to my Inner Guide for help making decisions and plans. I really do believe that God loves me and that I am innocent and as God created me. I trust God and believe in His promises.

I still have moments in which this is not entirely true. For instance, I got a call from a good friend tonight. He has run out of money and doesn’t have a job. We talked about it for a little bit. He took a pill for anxiety because he felt himself starting to panic. He sounded so confused and so lost that my heart ached for him.

I felt stressed about this at first, but pretty quickly, I was able to give this problem to God and to relax about it. I reminded myself to trust this child of God and to trust his guidance. I am very encouraged to see that I can watch these ego thoughts come and go without engaging them. This was not always the case.

For that short time when I was stressed about this situation, I was able to remember that God wills I be saved from this and to remember that it is only my thoughts that make me suffer. I gave Him those thoughts and sure enough, I was saved from the distress of fearful thinking.

Regina’s Tips

The idea that we will never awaken is called “doubt.” Doubt is an ego preservation strategy, because if we believe doubt, we won’t fully dedicate ourselves to spiritual practice. Doubt, when it is believed, holds us back.

Doubt seems strongest when the ego is loud in our mind. That is when the superego is eager to tell us that we are spiritual failures. Interestingly, that is also when the ego is most vulnerable. That is when we have the best opportunity for healing the mind and transcending the ego. In other words, the ego attacks loudest when it feels itself losing control of our attention. It is fighting to “regain command and control.” (NTI Acts 14)

Today’s lesson says, “I need but look upon all things that seem to hurt me, and with perfect certainty assure myself, ‘God wills that I be saved from this,’ …”

That faith can be very important when the ego gets loud. We are not alone. The Self, with all of its knowledge, wisdom and love, is right here supporting us in our efforts to awaken to our Self.

My Thoughts

I agree with Regina that when my challenges seem biggest, I have the greatest opportunity to transcend ego. That is when I remember that all things are lessons God would have me learn and that everything is in my best interest. And it is the time to be perfectly certain that God wills I be saved from this…

Past Entry

First, I have to understand that these words are meant to be taken literally. If I believe that God’s Will for me is perfect safety and perfect happiness, and if I choose only God’s Will then I will have this. I will be saved from my illusions of misery and danger. I will be saved as I accept that nothing is actually happening now. What seems to be happening happened eons ago and I am only watching it. It seems I am in it, doing it, being it, but that is a delusion. I am safe in God.

I will be saved because I have surrendered the will that made these things and accepted God’s Will as my own. I know this, and I practice this, and my life has changed to the degree I have accepted it. Incredibly enough, though, I still resist full surrender of the ego will.I get closer all the time and it will happen, and I will use today as the classroom to increase my willingness to do this.

I remember when I was still working how on Sunday night I would feel sad because I knew it was back to work Monday. I felt disappointed at the thought, and with that disappointment, I was no longer at peace. God wills I be saved from this feeling and the belief that caused the feeling. When I would remember God’s Will for me, many true thoughts would come into my mind, and I felt light and free. Then I could enjoy the moment. I was at peace, and peace is happiness.

In an earlier entry in my journal, I asked the Holy Spirit how it is I could believe what Jesus says here, that I am sinless forever because I am part of God, and yet still not have that experience. This is what He gave me.

Holy Spirit: You do hold in your mind the thought that you are created by Love as Love. You are able to understand logically that this means you are like God and therefore could not be sinful or suffer the effects of sin. However, that is not the only belief you hold in your mind. You also hold the belief that you did indeed sin against God, and that you deserve punishment. Therefore sin is born anew in your mind each time that idea is brought into awareness. You don’t notice that this is what is happening because the thought seems to take other forms.

Yesterday you allowed a memory to come up for healing. You thought about a time when you were younger and you were very unkind to your mother. Do you remember how you felt when you reviewed the incident in your mind? You said just thinking about your unloving behavior made you feel like throwing up. You felt very strong guilt, and it seemed to be about your behavior toward your mom, but this is just the mind replaying the sin of betraying God. All of the relationships in your life are opportunities to choose again to decide for ego or for God.

You were holding guilt so intense that the thought of it made you feel physically ill. That guilt seemed to be about your mom but that was just the form it took. The content is always the same; you think you sinned and so you think you are no longer part of God. This is the source of your guilt, your anger, your fear and all things that seem to hurt you. Now I want you to look at something else. There is a voice in your mind that tells you God is the source of your guilt, that it is God who is angry with you and disappointed in you. This voice says that you hurt God with your behavior and that he is going to punish you. In your mind, God becomes the source of all your fears.

Consider this instead: God has no part in any of this convoluted thinking of the egoic mind. God did not accuse you of anything. God does not care that the body of Myron was mean to the body of Mom. God does not even know the dreams of this illusion. He created His Son perfectly free and if His Son wants to play in a dream world and pretend to live and die and have dramas in between, God says yes, play away! But He does not become delusional about the dreams; God does not believe in them. Why then would He call you sinful because you dreamed an unkind drama with your mom?

Who then is the source of your fear? It can only be yourself. You source all that happens to you. Please consider this thought carefully: You source all that happens to you. If you feel guilty it can only be you who made yourself feel guilty, and therefore it can only be you who forgives. That is why the forgiveness of yourself is the first step in forgiving someone or something else. Forgive yourself for your projections onto others. Just as you have projected the guilty thoughts in your mind onto your loving Father, you are also projecting them onto the other dream figures in your illusion. Forgive yourself for doing this and there is nothing within you to project.

My dear child, you have no idea the beauty of God’s children without your projections to darken your view of them! As you continue your practice of allowing guilty thoughts to rise into your awareness and then forgiving yourself for your projections, you will begin to see a different world, and you will wonder how you could ever have thought your brother sinful. And as you allow your thoughts to be forgiven, you will be astounded at your own beauty as well. You are created in the image of God. Did you think you could be anything but beautiful?
