Lesson 114
(97) I am spirit.
I am the Son of God. No body can contain my spirit,
nor impose on me a limitation God created not.
(98) I will accept my part in God’s plan for salvation.
What can my function be but to accept the Word of God,
Who has created me for what I am and will forever be?
On the hour:
I am spirit.
On the half hour:
I will accept my part in God’s plan for salvation.
Journal
These lessons have been very supportive of my desire to know my Self. This morning, I started my meditation with greater anticipation than before. I know I am not this body no matter how much it sometimes feels like I am. I am spirit and cannot be limited because God created me unlimited. I am the Son of God. What an extraordinary thing to know when for so long I saw myself as so much less. Today, I will focus on my function, which is to simply accept God’s Word that I am as He created me.
My Contemplation
I am the Son of God, God the Son. Can a God also be a body? Can a God also be limited? It must be that I am not what I seem to be as this body/personality. Am I in this body or is this body in me? Is it a thought in the mind of which I am aware? Could I shift my awareness to something else? If I did, would the body cease to be or would others who value this body sustain it in their awareness until I returned my attention to it?
Or perhaps I dreamed up this story of a body long ago and I am just remembering it now, thinking about it, keeping it “alive” in my mind through my memories, as Jesus says, “an ancient memory I have placed before my eyes.”
How do I shift my mind from the body to what I am? Perhaps it is a matter of placing my attention on my Self as the foreground and with the body-self in the back ground. Then I could place my attention on the body-self bringing it into the foreground, with my Self in the background. Shifting my attention back and forth until it is easy and natural and until I comfortably keep the Self foremost in my sight and the ego self a bit in the background, never confusing the two again. Could that be it?
Regina’s Tips
Sometimes when wisdom begins to flow, it isn’t immediately brilliant to me. The first few words that appear may seem uninteresting or unorganized. I remember I’ve promised not to judge what comes, and I start writing whatever comes. This seems to open the flow more, and soon I have perfect wisdom for me now. And that’s really all it has to be … the perfect wisdom for me now.
If what comes feels like something that is good for you to focus on today, that’s it. That’s the wisdom. Don’t expect anything else. All you really need is today’s “daily bread.” Today’s daily bread, one day at a time, will take you all the way to the top of the mountain.
My Thoughts
My contemplation was a little different today. I contemplated through questioning possibilities. At first, I had the thought that this was going nowhere, that I am looking for answers, not more questions. But then I decided to trust the inner wisdom that was making itself known in this way. Maybe I need to let the questions rest in my mind to see what bubbles up during the day.
Past Entry
This lesson is a very simple statement of fact. I am not this body or this personality, and this world I seem to live in is not real. This body cannot contain me nor impose limits on me. And my function is to know this.
For a long time, I have used the same process to move past my mistaken beliefs. I still use it because it is so simple and because it has brought me from nearly total confusion into this place I am now where confusion comes sometimes but never stays. I pay attention to the thoughts passing through my mind and when I notice the desire to believe an ego thought, I gratefully release it to Holy Spirit.
I have added something to that process recently. This step is not so concrete, and a little harder to explain. It has probably been a part of the process for a long time but is now coming to the forefront of my mind. I open myself to Jesus and ask him to help me accept the truth into my heart, into the very center of my being. I let the Holy Spirit heal my mind and I allow the truth to permeate my awareness.
The ego wants very much to be part of this process and sometimes when I open my heart to healing, the ego pushes. It tries to exert its will to make something happen. It is taking some practice to simply allow and accept, to release the idea of some effort on my part, and the expectation of some concrete and anticipated outcome. But when I do this, when I relax into the process and simply rest in that place of certainty, everything shifts. Maybe I don’t see an effect, but I feel the shift in my being.
This works because of who and what and where I am. Who am I? I am the Son of God. What am I? I am part of the Christ Mind; I am Spirit. Where am I? I am in the Mind of God. I am dreaming of something else and the dream is becoming lucid because it is my desire to awaken. As the Son of God, my desire has all the power of God, and so it must be answered. Slowly, gently, a step at a time, I am being awakened according to my desire.
Alas, I am like a child at play, tired and ready to come home, but resisting the end of the game. I desire to awaken, and I am led out of the dream, but then I see something in the dream that catches my attention and I slip back into sleep again. I have wandered off far from home and am afraid to return because maybe I am in trouble. But I have this incredibly patient Guide who reassures me and waits for me to be ready for the next step, and then leads me to it.
Awakening is inevitable because it is the Will of God, and because the Will of God is also my will. At first, I hoped this was true rather than believing it was true. I felt like a naughty child who was being forgiven for something that I did wrong. I didn’t really feel like I deserved forgiveness, but I hoped for it and A Course in Miracles helped me to open to the possibility.
As I continued the study and practice of ACIM, I began to realize that I was forgiven because nothing actually happened. Now I am beginning to remember what I am and who I am and where I am. It still feels like a struggle against myself sometimes, and I still fall into forgetfulness sometimes, but I see the light now and I follow that light. I am Spirit and my function is to know that I am Spirit.
There is a place within me that is fully awake. As I release all that obscures that Self, It becomes more apparent to me. Thus far I have only touched it, but now I know it exists.
NO BODY CAN CONTAIN MY SPIRIT; What a mouthful ay? It’s so elusive I almost can’t retain that thought. It’s like, when some teachers say you are aware of being aware. Just follow that awareness and you will see you are not a body. So when I lack forgiveness and fall back into sleep, like you said Myron, we can, “open myself to Jesus and ask him to help me accept the truth into my heart, into the very center of my being. I let the Holy Spirit heal my mind and I allow the truth to permeate my awareness.” That is the only solution. This lesson is so simple, yet so true, and ego mind likes complexity and hard work and difficulties because ego mind will always “seek and not find.” This lesson is THE answer. I AM SPIRIT. I AM part of salvation, which I will attain through forgiveness, but I AM already Spirit. I AM aware of being aware as I look out my window. I notice I AM aware of bird singing, and a blue sky, and I AM aware that I AM aware of that. There’s a separation for me there from ego mind but it’s elusive and takes practice to step back like that. Thank you Myron for your share and thank you Holy Spirit for guiding us towards knowing we are LIGHT, we are SPIRIT. I am grateful!
