ACIM Lesson 77

Lesson 77

I am entitled to miracles.

1. You are entitled to miracles because of what you are. ²You will receive miracles because of what God is. ³And you will offer miracles because you are one with God. ⁴Again, how simple is salvation! ⁵It is merely a statement of your true Identity. ⁶It is this that we will celebrate today.

We are entitled to miracles because we are God’s Son, forever part of Him and unaffected by the illusion. The miracle is in us. It is the truth that we never separated from our Father, which is the answer to all suffering. As we receive the miracle, that is, as we open our minds to the truth, we offer it to all. We are one mind and so what one has all have. That we are entitled to miracles is, as Jesus says, merely a statement of our true identity.

The Truth of What You Are

2. Your claim to miracles does not lie in your illusions about yourself. ²It does not depend on any magical powers you have ascribed to yourself, nor on any of the rituals you have devised. ³It is inherent in the truth of what you are. ⁴It is implicit in what God your Father is. ⁵It was ensured in your creation, and guaranteed by the laws of God.

Miracles are not something we do from the perspective of the ego. They are not about magical powers or rituals. I was thinking about preachers who claim miracles by the touch of their hands. It’s a compelling story, at least to me. One of my favorite movies is Michael starring John Travolta as Michael the Archangel. He is sent to earth to perform miracles for certain people to re-awaken them to love. It is a fun show but also very touching.

But this is not the miracle that A Course in Miracles leads us to. We don’t need someone to lay hands on us, we need to accept the healing of our minds. This will open us to the truth of Who We are. As long as we continue to believe we are separate bodies living in the world and subject to its laws, we will suffer. As we continue to heal, we may see the effects of the healed mind projected outward. This may happen in the same way that we see the effects of the unhealed mind projected outward. In truth, it is all happening in our mind because there is no outside world.

Helen’s Miracles

3. Miracles occur naturally as expressions of love. ²The real miracle is the love that inspires them. ³In this sense everything that comes from love is a miracle. (ACIM, T-1.I.3:1-3) This is my favorite principle of miracles. In accepting that the separation from God never occurred, we are always moving from fear to love. In Helen’s notes there is story of miracles.

Helen went out of her way to do something that helped the children. Jesus shows her how this loving act was a miracle that affected not only her but others as well. This story had a strong effect on me. It made me want to be miracle ready at all times so miracles could flow through me, too. The way I strive to be miracle ready is to release all unloving thoughts to the Holy Spirit.

Miracles Are My right

3. Today we will claim the miracles which are your right, since they belong to you. ²You have been promised full release from the world you made. ³You have been assured that the Kingdom of God is within you, and can never be lost. ⁴We ask no more than what belongs to us in truth. ⁵Today, however, we will also make sure that we will not content ourselves with less.

The miracles I claim today are the result of a mind that has been made ready for them. I do my part as I watch the life of Myron to show me what yet needs healing in my mind. I then accept that healing and in so doing, the light in my mind is spread throughout the Sonship. Will this be reflected in the life of Myron? Maybe so, maybe not. What matters is that it will help us all awaken to the Kingdom of God which is in our minds. We are not asking for a magical gift. We are just asking for what is already ours.

Miracles follow From the Laws of God

4. Begin the longer practice periods by telling yourself quite confidently that you are entitled to miracles. ²Closing your eyes, remind yourself that you are asking only for what is rightfully yours. ³Remind yourself also that miracles are never taken from one and given to another, and that in asking for your rights, you are upholding the rights of everyone. ⁴Miracles do not obey the laws of this world. ⁵They merely follow from the laws of God.

I am entitled to the miracle of a healed mind and I am confident that I will receive it. Jesus mentions that I am not taking anything from another because miracles don’t operate on the laws of the world. What I receive, all receive.

Asking that the Will of God Be Done

5. After this brief introductory phase, wait quietly for the assurance that your request is granted. ²You have asked for the salvation of the world, and for your own. ³You have requested that you be given the means by which this is accomplished. ⁴You cannot fail to be assured in this. ⁵You are but asking that the Will of God be done.

6. In doing this, you do not really ask for anything. ²You state a fact that cannot be denied. ³The Holy Spirit cannot but assure you that your request is granted. ⁴The fact that you accepted must be so. ⁵There is no room for doubt and uncertainty today. ⁶We are asking a real question at last. ⁷The answer is a simple statement of a simple fact. ⁸You will receive the assurance that you seek.

Today we ask for a real miracle and the means for its accomplishment. We will be answered because this is the Will of God. Jesus says that we are not really asking for anything, but stating an undeniable fact. He says that there is no room for uncertainty and doubt. This is very encouraging and my experience is that I always get exactly what I want. If it is not what I expected, I forgive myself and change my mind as quickly as I can. I have asked for many things in my life but now I am asking a real question, so I can be sure I will be answered.

I Will Not Trade Miracles for Grievances

7. Our shorter practice periods will be frequent, and will also be devoted to a reminder of a simple fact. ²Tell yourself often today:

³I am entitled to miracles.

⁴Ask for them whenever a situation arises in which they are called for. ⁵You will recognize these situations. ⁶And since you are not relying on yourself to find the miracle, you are fully entitled to receive it whenever you ask.

8. Remember, too, not to be satisfied with less than the perfect answer. ²Be quick to tell yourself, should you be tempted:

³I will not trade miracles for grievances. ⁴I want only what belongs to me. ⁵God has established miracles as my right.

Jesus asks us to practice by remembering that we are entitled to miracles. He says to ask for them when a situation arises that calls for them. And he says that we will know when. I know that I need a miracle when I feel less than loving and peaceful. This is a lesson we can do easily and in joy. Miracles are ours by right and we want them. I am feeling happy thinking about a day filled with miracles.

The Holy Spirit Provides the Healing

Because I have done this enough now, I am quick to become aware of the need and generally quick to ask for the miracle. You notice that I said I ask for it. I can depend on an answer because I am not asking it of my self. The Holy Spirit will provide the healing that is needed for the perfect answer. I will not settle for less. Jesus ends this lesson by reminding us that we cannot have both miracles and grievances. The grievances in our mind will block our awareness of the oneness. As he has been telling us for several lessons now, we must release all grievances if we want to remember who we are.
