ACIM Lesson 157

ACIM Lesson 157 Let me remember what my purpose is. If I forget my goal I can be but confused, unsure of what I am, and thus conflicted in my actions.

Let me remember what my purpose is.

1. If I forget my goal I can be but confused, unsure of what I am, and thus conflicted in my actions. ²No one can serve contradicting goals and serve them well. ³Nor can he function without deep distress and great depression. ⁴Let us therefore be determined to remember what we want today, that we may unify our thoughts and actions meaningfully, and achieve only what God would have us do this day.

2. Father, forgiveness is Your chosen means for our salvation. ²Let us not forget today that we can have no will but Yours. ³And thus our purpose must be Yours as well, if we would reach the peace You will for us.

My Goal and My Purpose

Once again, a perfect lesson for today. Someone I love very much shared her story with me and I felt her fear and then someone else I love shared her story and I felt her anxiety. There was nothing I can say that would be helpful, nor was I asked to say anything. This morning, I could still feel some of this emotion washing over me, but on reading the lesson, I felt it all recede. The peace of God is my only goal and my purpose is to give what I receive.

The way I do it in a case like this is to remember that we are all in God, safe and joyful. It is only in the dream that it appears there are problems to be solved. I don’t need to worry about either of these two people. I can give them peace only if I have peace to give so worry would be counterproductive to my goal and my purpose. I know who they are in truth and so I know that I can trust them to learn what they came to learn just as I am doing this.

Release Through Forgiveness

Just as I was aware of and affected by their strong emotions, now that I have released that energy, they will be aware of and affected by my love and trust. They will benefit from my peace of mind. The added bonus is that giving and receiving are the same thing so as I give peace, I receive peace. I forgave the belief in the fear and anxiety and I forgave that I temporarily believed in it.

I forgave the idea that these loved ones are less than what God created no matter if they think they are. I embrace that we are part of God, in God, and loved by God. We share all that is God and thus God’s Will is our will and His Will is that we be at peace. And so we are. This is the way, through forgiveness, that I unify my thoughts and actions meaningfully, and achieve only what God would have me do this day.
