ACIM Lesson 90

Lesson 90

For this review we will use these ideas:

1. (79) Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved.

²Let me realize today that the problem is always some form of grievance that I would cherish. ³Let me also understand that the solution is always a miracle with which I let the grievance be replaced. ⁴Today I would remember the simplicity of salvation by reinforcing the lesson that there is one problem and one solution. ⁵The problem is a grievance; the solution is a miracle. ⁶And I invite the solution to come to me through my forgiveness of the grievance, and my welcome of the miracle that takes its place.

2. Specific applications of this idea might be in these forms:

²This presents a problem to me which I would have resolved.
³The miracle behind this grievance will resolve it for me.
⁴The answer to this problem is the miracle that it conceals.

I just realized as I read this lesson that I have a grievance against my body. In fact, I think I always have had that grievance in one form or another. It’s funny that I failed to realize that this was happening. I’m sure that from time to time I noticed but until now I had not realized how pervasive is the grievance. At the moment, the grievance is that I have nerve pain. The many outward solutions I have tried are not solving the problem.

I Remain Open to the Solution

A problem with the body is no different than any other problem I perceive in the world. It is all the same problem. The solution is the same as well. As I let go of guilt, the problem is resolved by the miracle. Guilt is all that stands between the problem and the solution. I am opening my mind to Jesus welcoming his help in seeing this correctly.

I am currently trying something new and unless I feel prompted to abandon this treatment, I will keep doing it. But I know that if I don’t address the real problem, nothing will change. Even if the treatment works, the problem still exists so it will show up somewhere else. This presents a problem to me which I would have resolved. Thus, I will remain open to accepting the only solution to the only problem I have.

3. (80) Let me recognize my problems have been solved.

²I seem to have problems only because I am misusing time. ³I believe that the problem comes first, and time must elapse before it can be worked out. ⁴I do not see the problem and the answer as simultaneous in their occurrence. ⁵That is because I do not yet realize that God has placed the answer together with the problem, so that they cannot be separated by time. ⁶The Holy Spirit will teach me this, if I will let Him. ⁷And I will understand it is impossible that I could have a problem which has not been solved already.

4. These forms of the idea will be useful for specific applications:

²I need not wait for this to be resolved.
³The answer to this problem is already given me, if I will accept it.
⁴Time cannot separate this problem from its solution.

I Need not Wait for the Solution

I understand what Jesus is telling me. The problem is in mind and the solution is there as well. There is no need for time to elapse between problem and solution except that I fail to immediately accept the solution. My mind has learned to expect the need for time and so it would be helpful for me to instruct it otherwise. These practices help with that. I tell myself that I need not wait for this to be resolved. This is instructing my mind. I am instructing it to see the problem and solution differently. The other two ideas do the same.

The ego wants to be part of this solution. It wants to think about all the many instances of guilt. Then it says I must stop believing them. It doesn’t work like that. Digging out each individual moment in which I felt guilty or thought someone else was guilty would be endless. And it would just add to the burden of guilt I have carried all my life. Also, it is not my job to heal the mind, only to recognize the need for healing and accept it. When I notice guilt in my mind, I simply recognize the need for the solution. And then, to the best of my ability, I accept the solution. That is all I need to do.
