ACIM Daily Lesson 239 The glory of my Father is my own.

The glory of my Father is my own.
Lesson 239
The glory of my Father is my own.
1. Let not the truth about ourselves today be hidden by a false humility. ²Let us instead be thankful for the gifts our Father gave us. ³Can we see in those with whom He shares His glory any trace of sin and guilt? ⁴And can it be that we are not among them, when He loves His Son forever and with perfect constancy, knowing he is as He created him?
2. We thank You, Father, for the light that shines forever in us. ²And we honor it, because You share it with us. ³We are one, united in this light and one with You, at peace with all creation and ourselves.
Our glory is the simple truth.
It might seem vainglorious to think of ourselves as having the glory of our Father, but Jesus tells us this is false humility. We are not claiming something we want to be true but are simply stating a fact. God gave all of Himself to us in our creation. He loves us forever and with perfect constancy because He knows we are still as He created us. Now we must think about what this means about our brothers.
May we know ourselves as part of God.
If the glory of God is my own, it is also everyone else’s own. Should I think to judge against someone or hold a grievance against another, let me remember Who it is that I am attacking. If I imagine that I am guilty, may I remember the light that shines forever in me, and may I quickly forgive that error. My most consistent prayer is that I see each person as part of the Whole that we are, part of God. May we all be at peace with all creation and ourselves.
This is the lesson that took the longest for me to accept. The idea of myself as glorified, as the Son of God, has taken all these years. I accept the idea, and I practice thinking of myself in that way. My ego mind was very resistant to this idea, and I felt that resistance, but I learned not to flinch at the thought. And, I do believe it’s true even as my mind has trouble envisioning such a thing.
God created and loves us, and this will never change.
He created us like Himself, so there is no reason to see myself falsely. How could I be anything less than what I was created? It is not possible. I only become confused about that when I think of myself as this body/personality. Then I remind myself that this is just a part I am playing in a production of Separation and Specialness. Better catch it soon if you want to see what happens to our heroine. It is here for only a short run. ~smile~ My real Self is as God created me, perfect, brilliant, beautiful, and eternal, and that’s a story not shown on earth.
This is from a past journal. It seems I was beginning to experience the light.
Holy Spirit, I seem to be learning that I cannot see my own glory unless I am willing to see my brother’s glory. But paradoxically, I cannot see his glory unless I am willing to see mine. I notice that as long as I hold onto guilt within my mind, I find everyone else guilty, too. This is projection on my part. I seem to be forgiving everyone else simply by forgiving myself for what I think I see in them. I know… this is what Jesus told me all along, but as I practice this kind of forgiveness, I suddenly get it.
Until recently, I was trying to see my and my brother’s glory. As I forgive myself, I find that I don’t have to try. From a healed mind, I automatically see the light of God shining through. So once again, I realize that there is nothing for me to do to make the truth real or make it show up in my life. I just undo the illusions I made to take its place, and the light which never left becomes apparent to me.
There is something else that I understand now.
I am beginning to realize that it is supreme arrogance on my part to think that I am in charge of the light of God. There is nothing I need to do to bring it into existence. I step back from that idea and simply allow. Instead of seeing myself as somehow responsible for the light, I am now simply the channel through which God expresses His love.
It is very humbling, and yet, at the same time it is glorious to think of myself as a vessel for God. I want to empty myself of every ego thought to purify this vessel and prepare it for my Father’s use. As spirit, I am whole, and there is no separation. And so I understand why Jesus always speaks of my brother’s importance to my healing. Healing is literally the rejoining (in my mind) of that which was never separated.
I was unable to accept my Father’s glory as my own because I had always been identifying with the ego. The more I practice forgiveness, the less I identify with the ego, and the more I identify with myself as spirit. I begin to accept myself as an extension of God. Now it no longer feels arrogant and frightening to think of myself as sharing the glory of my Father. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for helping me to see this more clearly.
