A Course in Miracles Workbook Daily Lesson 258, Year 2022

ACIM Daily Lesson 258 Let me remember that my goal is God.

Let me remember that my goal is God.

Lesson 258

Let me remember that my goal is God.

1. All that is needful is to train our minds to overlook all little senseless aims, and to remember that our goal is God. ²His memory is hidden in our minds, obscured but by our pointless little goals which offer nothing, and do not exist. ³Shall we continue to allow God’s grace to shine in unawareness, while the toys and trinkets of the world are sought instead? ⁴God is our only goal, our only Love. ⁵We have no aim but to remember Him.

2. Our goal is but to follow in the way that leads to You. ²We have no goal but this. ³What could we want but to remember You? ⁴What could we seek but our Identity?

When I remember the truth that there is no world and I am not a body nor in a body; when I remember that this is just an ancient memory I placed before my eyes, I truly have no goal but God. We made the world appear real, though, and I get pulled back into it, and when that happens, I start to think that there are other things I want. I start to think there are other things I need.

This is when it helps me to remember that my only goal is the peace of God.

²The peace of God is everything I want. ³The peace of God is my one goal; the aim of all my living here, the end I seek, my purpose and my function and my life, while I abide where I am not at home. (ACIM, W-205.1:2-3)

I notice that the first sentence says it is everything I want, not just something I want, but everything. It seems that there are other things to want, and it seems like I have to do something to get those things. I need food and shelter, and there are calls to take and lessons to write about. But then I remember that this so-called life is just a memory. It is going to happen because it did happen. My job is to keep deciding what the lesson is and choosing to learn that lesson. These decisions determine if I will watch this show with interest and in peace or if I will watch it in fear and unhappiness. It also determines if this is when I awaken.

When I remember my one goal, I remain at peace.

I am at peace no matter what happens in Myron’s story. When I get distracted by the story and start thinking that I am Myron, I feel like she feels. Sometimes when that happens, I make a joke of it. Something that feels upsetting happens, and I think, “Woah, where did that adrenal surge come from? What is she up to now?” It makes me laugh and pulls me out of the story. With that detachment from what is happening in the life of Myron, I can see more clearly what belief caused the reaction and decide if I want to keep that belief. If not, I release it. There, job done. Peace of mind is restored.

Regina’s Tips on What Is Sin? And on the Lesson

Our special theme asks, “How long, O Son of God, will you maintain the game of sin?”

We can answer, “No longer will I play that game.” It is within our power to stop playing the game now. We have the practices that point away from games and towards truth. To stop playing the game, we simply need the desire to live from those practices instead of from old conditioning that is not in harmony with what we want now.

My Thoughts

I have made my decision, and now I will use the practices I have to master that decision.

Regina’s Tips on the lesson

Today is another opportunity to contemplate what we really want.

Spiritual practice can be forgotten when we are distracted by the personality mind’s “little senseless aims.” However, when we continuously contemplate what we really want, we are naturally drawn to the spiritual practices that lead to Self-realization. We are naturally drawn to those practices because they are the way to complete our heart’s one true desire.

Here is something that happened one time.

God is my goal all the time now. But I watch all day long for signs that I have chosen another goal. Sometimes I notice that I have, and then I change my mind quickly. I want no other goal. It is easy now for me to recognize that I have followed another goal because it makes me uneasy. An example would be when I start feeling anxious.

I was having trouble getting my printer to connect to my computer. It just happened suddenly, and I couldn’t figure out what to do about it. I had something I needed to print, and the harder I tried to make things work, the more anxious I became. Suddenly, I saw what had happened. My goal was to get my printer to work. I stopped what I was doing, and I remembered that God is my goal. I relaxed. Yes, I will need to correct this, but it is not my goal, just something that needs to be done.

I asked for guidance.

After having tried those things that I thought might work, and then I waited for inspiration. I have another printer my friend gave me when she moved, and I had briefly looked at it but not used it. It seemed complicated to me at the time, but I decided to try it again. Not only did it work but I like it much better than the computer I had been using.

There was a difference between what happened when my goal became to make the printer work and when I remembered that I have only one goal and that is God. That difference was peace. At first, I was very anxious and frustrated, but then, when I changed my goal, I was completely peaceful.

Deciding for God brought me to my natural state, the peace of God, which cannot be disturbed by outside circumstances. From that state of mind, I could move from step to step without fear or frustration. I was open to inspiration.

I know I have lost sight of my goal if I begin to worry.

For instance, if I worry about one of my children, then fixing my child becomes my goal. If I am very worried, I can become temporarily confused and find it harder to return to my only goal. But, I always get there because I am very certain of what I want. In a case like this, I ask for guidance and healing, and I always receive it. It might come as an inspired thought, such as the remembrance that it is only my thoughts that hurt me, or I must have asked the ego what this situation means. When this happens, I wake up to the truth, the fog in my mind lifts, and I am at peace again.

Here is a time I needed guidance about setting goals.

I was not yet certain of my goal, so I asked for clarity.

Holy Spirit, is there anything you would like to bring to my awareness about this?

Holy Spirit: There is a difference between saying you have a single goal and living that principle. Be very clear with yourself about your goals. Without thinking too deeply, without spiritualizing and editing the list, write out your goals for the day. I think you will see that they are not all you would have them be. It is a beginning to say you have one goal today, but more is needed. Look with me at the goals the ego would have you fulfill before you claim them released. Do not skip this step. Do not look out of the corner of your eye then look away. Look at the ego’s intentions; look at them straight on. I will look with you.

Me: I understand what I am to do.

I understand that I sometimes say that I am done when I have not even begun. My goals are many, and more than a few of them contradict the others. I also notice that I begin with the things to do and then get around to my true purpose. I think I should turn that list around. Maybe I don’t need a to-do list if I choose to remember my purpose.

Holy Spirit: The last goal on your list says that you want to spend the day reveling in being lived rather than struggling to live. Step back and allow. Watch the story of Myron rather than trying to create the story. Make that your first goal instead of your last one, and all the others will care for themselves. Simple, easy, peaceful. Allow the life of Myron to unfold before you. Enjoy the story and be at peace with the story. Ask Me questions as you watch, and listen to My answers. Stop and remember your only goal when you feel compelled to make something happen.

Me: Thank you, Holy Spirit.

Actually, I didn’t switch my list around. I tore off the top part with all the to-dos on it and kept only the one goal of allowing God to live through me. I love You. Thank You.
