Lesson 40 2021

Lesson 40

I am blessed as a Son of God.

W-pI.40.1. Today we will begin to assert some of the happy things to which you are entitled, being what you are. 2 No long practice periods are required today, but very frequent short ones are necessary. 3 Once every ten minutes would be highly desirable, and you are urged to attempt this schedule and to adhere to it whenever possible. 4 If you forget, try again. 5 If there are long interruptions, try again. 6 Whenever you remember, try again.

W-pI.40.2. You need not close your eyes for the exercise periods, although you will probably find it more helpful if you do. 2 However, you may be in a number of situations during the day when closing your eyes would not be feasible. 3 Do not miss a practice period because of this. 4 You can practice quite well under any circumstances, if you really want to.

W-pI.40.3. Today’s exercises take little time and no effort. 2 Repeat the idea for today, and then add several of the attributes you associate with being a Son of God, applying them to yourself. 3 One practice period might, for example, consist of the following:

4 I am blessed as a Son of God.
5 I am happy, peaceful, loving and contented.

6 Another might take this form:

7 I am blessed as a Son of God.
8 I am calm, quiet, assured and confident.

9 If only a brief period is available, merely telling yourself that you are blessed as a Son of God will do.

It seems Jesus has a double purpose for this lesson. He wants us to acknowledge and accept that we have the same attributes as our Creator. He wants us to realize that we are meant to be happy and peaceful, that our Creator intends this for us. The second thing he is doing is asking us to up our commitment. This lesson requires that we try our best to adhere to a schedule, one that asks us to remember every 10 minutes. That may sound like a lot, but it is so simple that it is doable. Even if we only say, I am blessed as a Son of God, we can do this every ten minutes all during the day.

Every 10 minutes? Yikes! Do you notice resistance to the idea? Do you think right off that there is no way you can do this? What I will do is give any resistance I feel to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to heal my mind. Then I will do my best and if I forget, I will try again, and if I find myself resistant again, I will turn to my faithful Guide and ask Him to help me remember. So little is asked of us and the reward is so great. How could I not do this lesson? And I will likely fail to do it perfectly, but that’s alright. I will appreciate what I gain from my effort, and I will ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen my dedication going forward.

As a help, I wrote the lesson in my calendar which I look at all during the day, and on two cards that I placed in my living room and my kitchen just as a reminder. I am determined to keep my purpose firmly in my mind all through the day and this practice is a good way to do that. I also see these affirmations as the truth about me and lord knows we all need to affirm the truth as often as we can because the ego-mind is very determined to assert its will as if it were ours. The ego constantly fills our minds with thoughts that are opposite to our true identity. Today, let us take a stand for truth as we remind ourselves of who we are.
